Road 1.
An atlas is often a gateway for imagining, pages with rich visual insights into the earth's creation, solar systems, time, populations and maps of distant lands. The Contents page of Dent’s, Canadian School Atlas boldly titled THE SUPPLEMENT - IN 2 COLOURS, was unconvincing, it seemed to offer no platform for imagining and I promptly began scanning the pages for an initial overview. I was suddenly captivated, three illustrations titled Geographic Terms and Symbols S5, black and white gems illustrated such dense content in such a pragmatic way. The terms and visual solution engaged me immediately, allowing limitless room for imagining, the triptych of landforms served as a framework for creating the paintings in this series.

Road 2.
I began to hike, visit and explore the terms illustrated in the maps, exploration of them included photos and sketches, changing weather, time and the tactile nature that define each place. The process then required a period of distance and forgetting, in recalling and re-imagining fresh, the interpretations reveal my impressions and definition.
